AUTHORITY OVER THE ENEMY
OR
HIDDEN TRUTH REVEALED
SUNDAY JULY 4, 2021
Scripture To Consider:
“Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’ And He said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.’”
“In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, ‘I thank You Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is but the Father, and who the Father is but the Son, and the one whom the Son wills to reveal Him.’”
“And He turned to His disciples and said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.’” Luke 10.17-24
Something To Consider:
The most remarkable new found understanding to these seventy disciples that Jesus sent out, was that the demons were subject to them as they used the name of Jesus. So, they rejoiced at this newly discovered authority over the enemy, Satan. But Jesus said, in response to their rejoicing, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Could Jesus have been making a reference to what can be found in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28? For in these two passages an angelic being of great musical ability is described as an anointed cherub in Ezekiel, and as Lucifer, son of the morning in Isaiah.
Because of pride and rebellion, Isaiah wrote in verse 12 of chapter 14, “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground.” Therefore, Jesus declared His witnessing that historical event in our Scripture to consider.
Something Else To Consider:
Since Satan’s original fall from his heavenly position in the presence of God, he and his demonic entourage have had access to the heavenlies. But, in Revelation 12.7-12. John reports a war breaking out in heaven at the end of the age. We are told by John in his reporting that Michael and his angels fought with the dragon and the dragon and his fallen angels fought with Michael and his angels.
And in verse 9 the record reveals, “So the great dragon was cast out [of heaven during the end times], that serpent of old, called the devil and Satan who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels [now known as demons] were cast out with him.”
John also revealed, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren [Satan], who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down [to the earth]. And they [the brethren living upon earth] overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb [Jesus] and by the word of their testimony [of Jesus], and they [the brethren] did not love their lives to the death.’”
John finished his eye witness report of Satan being cast out of heaven at the end of the age and declared in verse 12 of Revelation chapter 12; “Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and all you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Something More To Consider:
And according to our Scripture to consider, “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, ‘I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes.’” The word babes speak of spiritually newborn believers in Jesus Christ. Therefore, these seventy disciples that were sent out were no doubt new believers from Jesus’ perspective. They were in essence among some of the earliest leaders in training under the personal teaching of Jesus!
What has the Lord revealed to us, to you, to me, recently that causes us to rejoice? And will we continue to rejoice when Satan is finally cast down to the earth having great wrath knowing his time is short?
Will it be said that we overcame the enemy by the blood of the Lamb Jesus Christ? Will it be said that we did not love our lives even to the death if that is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us? What is our reaction to these end time events and hidden truths that are being revealed to us?
A Few Final Words:
These hidden things of the kingdom according to Jesus are being revealed to those whom the Son of God desires to reveal them to. Paul wrote of a mystery which has been hidden for ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. Paul proclaimed in Colossians 1.27; “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory His mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Jesus Christ, our hope of glory, is the hidden, yet revealed truth! And the receiving of that truth that has been revealed from God is not an earned or learned process, but rather, it is a gift of grace bestowed upon believers at His discretion. And yet, this hidden revelation has been hidden in plain sight in the written Word of God.
According to our Scripture to consider, “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, ‘I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.’”
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, we rejoice that in Jesus You have revealed this truth to us for the purpose that our faith in Christ will be increased. In Him Always, Amen!
