Troubled Hearts
Or
Believing In Jesus
Sunday Feb. 5, 2023
Scripture To Consider:
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
“Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.’ Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.’”
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father, and how can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.’” John 14.1-14
Something To Consider:
Heart disease is the number one killer in America among adults. Jesus declared in Luke 21.25-26, speaking of last days events; “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the seas and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
But Jesus, per our Scripture to consider, told his early disciples and all those who would follow Him down through the centuries, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” But what does it mean to truly believe in Jesus? How can we not allow our hearts to not be troubled in the midst of the demonic but man-endorsed chaotic end time events that are coming before Christ comes, and even playing havoc on planet earth as you read this lesson of a lifetime?
Our bottom line prayer needs to be, as was Jesus’ prayer when He faced the end of life events in His own life. “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Therefore, we must be obedient to God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. And if that means difficult days, then so be it! True Christianity has always suffered persecution and all true believers in Jesus have endured to the end. What is our end time goal? Make sure it is according to Jesus and His end time goals!
Something Else To Consider:
The symptoms of spiritually troubled hearts vary from being worried, fretting, fearfulness, anxiety, and often feeling overcome by doubt and disbelief. The real remedy for a troubled heart is to believe in Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God who is full of grace and full of truth.
For many claim to believe in God and yet are still plagued by a troubled heart and still experience the pain of spiritual cardiac arrest at a moment’s notice. Why is that? Could it be that we are not in agreement with God’s will on earth? Isaiah acknowledged in Isaiah 1.19; “If you [we] are willing and obedient, you [we] shall eat the good of the land.”
Jesus proclaimed in John 14.15; “If you love Me, keep [or be obedient to] My commandments.” Obedience to the Word of God is the eternal key to our survival! I am not speaking of our earthly survival, but our eternal survival.
The prophet Jeremiah declared, speaking for God; “Obey My voice and I will be your God, and you shall be My people.” Troubled hearts are relieved by believing in Jesus to the degree that we are obedient to His Word.
Something More To Consider:
And those who truly believe in Jesus believe He is preparing a place for them and therefore believing brings them comfort. It is a constant reminder that this earth is not our home. Believing in Jesus helps reinforce the truth of His coming again to receive to Himself all those who obediently believe in Him.
For all those who believe in Jesus, He becomes their way to God the Father. To those who believe in Jesus, He becomes the truth concerning God the Father. To those who believe in Jesus, He becomes eternal life in the presence of God the Father.
Believing in Jesus whole heartily and without any reservation becomes the best assurance and eternal insurance against the possibility of inheriting a troubled heart, or reversing the symptoms of a troubled heart. And yet, what is the ultimate alternative?
According to John 3.36; “He [or she] who believes in the Son [Jesus] has everlasting life; and he [or she] who does not believe in the Son shall not see life [eternal life with God], but the wrath [eternal punishment] abides on him [or her].” Unbelief creates and perpetuates a troubled heart and the eternal wrath of an Almighty God. Whether you believe in God or not, does not negate your receiving His eternal reward or eternal wrath!
A Few Final Words:
We are on many occasions as the troubled heart father who brought his son to Jesus for healing in Mark chapter 9. Jesus said to the father and to all within hearing, including us some 2,000 years later; “If you can believe, all things are possible to him [or her] who believes.”
The father’s response was, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” So often our belief in Jesus is almost overwhelmed by our unbelief. But if we allow our belief to overcome our unbelief, all things are possible, including our enduring to the end of the coming end time events. Therefore, what will be our response to those most difficult coming end time days?
Spiritual heart failure begins with a spiritually troubled heart. Believing in Jesus, present tense believing in Jesus is the best medicine for a troubled heart and comes with no future warnings of evil side effects!
Therefore, according to Jesus, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.”
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, may we not inherit spiritual heart failure in these last days, but rather be strengthened by our believing in Jesus. May we be found growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. And may we be willing to stand firm in our never-ending enduring to the end true belief in You as our heavenly Father, Your Holy Spirit, Your holy Word, and Jesus Christ, Son of man and Son of God. In Him Always, Amen!
